We convened a three-part session at the RGS International Conference in September 2016 on 'Water Energy and Food Nexus: Dealing with a wicked problem?"
The session brought together all three EPSRC funded Water Energy Food Nexus projects: STEPPING UP, WEF WEB and Vaccinating the Nexus, as well as contributions from a range of linked projects with relevant connections. The first session explored UK and international perspectives on nexus issues. In addition to hearing from Stepping UP and WEFWEBs, there were be presentations by Anthony Hurdford from the University of Manchester on Nexus infrastructure and Dragan Savic and Lydia Vamvakeridou-Lyroudia from the University of Exeter on improving Nexus decision making. In the second part, the focus was on Nexus methods, with topics including "nexus attitudes", case study-focused work, grappling with issues of Nexus governance as well as models and decision support tools. The final session brought in colleagues from the University of Cambridge, including Professor Keith Richards, the Centre for the Evaluation of Complexity Across the Nexus (CECAN), and the James Hutton Institute. Presentations from the Stepping UP talks will be uploaded shortly.
